Federal regulation CFR 49, Part 191 requires that all gas pipeline operators file annual reports with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Materials Transportation Bureau. These reports contain a wide range of safety and operational data involving the transportation of natural gas by miles of pipe installed and in service, etc. The information tabulated in this annual publication is based on forms submitted and is divided into three major sections: historical, national, and state/regional summary data. The historical section contains tables and charts useful in computing trend analysis of the pipeline industry. Information such as: miles of pipeline installed, retired, inspected, cathodically protected and in service; number of personal injuries and the amount of property damage; number of leaks repaired by cause, etc. are included. Data compiled from forms DOT F 7100.1-1 and/or DOT F 7100.2-1.
