Abstract:This report presents the theoretical development of a model to predict the vibration reduction by floating-slab tracks in subway tunnels. Data from a field study in New York City are also presented. The report is one of three reports dealing with noise and vibration control for urban rail transit track and elevated structures. The theoretical model described allows for the prediction of the force transmissibility--the ratio of the amplitudes of the force on the tunnel floor and the force on the rail. Data from the field study support the use of a simple single-degree-of-freedom oscillator for predicting vibration reduction. The theoretical model developed allows predictions to be made for a more general case.
