This report compiles definitions of transportation terms used throughout the Department of Transportation and other US government agencies. This is the first edition of Transportation Expressions; future editions will be expanded in scope to include additional US government agencies and private transportation related agency definitions of transportation terms. The terms are organized by their common name. Each term appears in bold print, followed by its definition and the source citation. Source citations are italicized for easy readability. Specific documents, publications or databases used to compile Transportation Expressions are identified in the Source Index. Terms are cross referenced within the document and also with the Term Index. The Term Index refers the reader to all major groupings of related terms.
