Abstract:The objectives of the System Operations Studies (SOS) of the Automated Guideway Transit Technology (AGTT) program was to develop models for the analysis of system operations, to evaluate AGT system performance and cost, and to establish guidelines for the design and operation of AGT systems. This final report summarizes and documents the work accomplished by General Motors and the Transportation Systems Center in the fulfillment of the Extended System Operations Studies contract. The three main areas covered in this report are: (1) the development of a set of analysis procedures that are supported by the computer models developed during the SOS project; (2) the software changes made to the Discrete Event Simulation Model (DESM) to expand and improve its capability to model guideway transit systems; and (3) the validation of the ability of the DESM to accurately model vehicle merges and the generality of modeling custom designed dispatching algorithm. Also included in this report is a description of three system level models and their possible application to the analysis of conventional transit
