B., Slawinski, A., & Higgins, C. (2026). CREATE Year1 Dataset for Combining Structural and Cathodic Protection with Titanium Alloy Bars (Version 1.0) [Data set]. Zenodo. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18735817 Purpose and scope ----------------- This dataset supports CREATE UTC Report 2301-9. The research developed and evaluated a dual-function near-surface mounted retrofit system in which titanium alloy bars (TiABs) provide structural strengthening while also serving as impressed-current cathodic-protection (ICCP) anodes. An electrically conductive structural grout (ECSG) provides mechanical bond and electrical continuity. The archived data support the report's electrochemical, material, bond, flexural, and shear findings. The dataset contains experimental measurements and supporting documentation from: 1. Electrically conductive structural grout characterization, including compressive strength and bulk electrical resistivity. 2. Small reinforced-concrete prism electrochemical testing, including open-circuit half-cell potentials and potentiodynamic scans. 3. Large-scale flexural- and shear-beam electrochemical testing, including polarization, applied-current, half-cell-potential, and depolarization measurements. 4. TiAB pullout/bond testing using full and half embedment lengths and both ECSG and epoxy controls. 5. Large-scale structural beam testing, including load, displacement, reinforcing-steel strain, TiAB strain, and stirrup strain measurements. 6. Specimen and instrumentation drawings and high-resolution photographs documenting fabrication, instrumentation, test setup, and failure conditions. Data organization ----------------- The submitted archive is organized into the following major groups: Electrochemical Data/ Beams/ Electrochemical measurements for flexural and shear beam specimens. Grout/ Grout material characterization workbook. Prisms/ Prism open-circuit potential and potentiodynamic-scan data. Structural Data/ Beams/ Large-scale flexural and shear beam response data. Pullouts/ TiAB pullout force-deformation datasets. READ_ME for Data Format.docx Legacy documentation describing DPlot-style ASCII datasets used for some files. Drawings/ Specimen, reinforcement, and test/instrumentation drawings. Images/ High-resolution JPEG/PNG photographs of specimens, fabrication, instrumentation, test setups, and failure conditions. These images are included in the public Zenodo record; the large image collection may be maintained separately from local archive copies. IMPORTANT LEGACY FILENAME NOTE ------------------------------ Files named "All Drawings TiAB Report Year1 DMP.docx" or "All Drawings TiAB Report Year1 DMP.pdf" contain specimen and test-setup drawings. Despite the legacy filename, they are NOT the project Data Management Plan. The authoritative closeout DMP is the separately supplied file: 2301-9_TiAB_Year1_Data_Management_Plan.pdf File formats and software ------------------------- .csv - Comma-separated or ASCII text experimental data. Most files can be opened with a text editor, Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Python, MATLAB, R, or similar software. Some files use a DPlot-style ASCII structure even when the extension is .csv; see "Structural Data/READ_ME for Data Format.docx". .xlsx - Microsoft Excel workbook format. Open with Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or compatible software. .DTA - Gamry instrument-native electrochemical data files generated during potentiostat testing. Gamry Echem Analyst/Framework software is recommended for full interpretation. CSV exports are supplied for key electrochemical results where applicable. .PNG/.jpeg - Still images; readable by standard image viewers. .pdf - Portable Document Format drawings/documentation; readable by standard PDF viewers. .docx - Microsoft Word documentation; readable by Microsoft Word or compatible software. Data conventions and units -------------------------- Individual tabular files contain headers or curve labels describing the measured variables. The associated final report provides specimen geometry, instrumentation locations, test procedures, and engineering units. Structural data include loads, displacements, and strains; electrochemical data include potentials, current/current density, time, and related test variables. Pullout files may use the DPlot v1.6 ASCII structure documented in the included data-format README. Experimental methods and relationship to the report ---------------------------------------------------- Detailed specimen geometry, material proportions, instrumentation, and test procedures are documented in CREATE UTC Report 2301-9. Key methods include: - Grout compressive strength testing and bulk electrical resistivity characterization. - Half-cell potential measurements using a saturated calomel electrode and electrochemical testing with a Gamry Interface 3000 potentiostat. - ICCP polarization/depolarization monitoring of small prisms and large-scale beams. - TiAB pullout testing with load and loaded-/unloaded-end displacement measurements. - Large-scale flexural and shear beam testing with load, displacement transducers, and bonded strain gauges. Quality assurance / quality control ----------------------------------- Data were reviewed during analysis for completeness, engineering units, consistency of specimen and channel identification, physically plausible response, and agreement between processed datasets and plots/results reported in the final report. Original instrument-native files were retained where available, and processed/exported data were stored separately to support reuse. The final report provides an independent narrative record of test conditions, specimen configurations, reported values, and interpreted results. Access, privacy, and restrictions --------------------------------- The final dataset is publicly accessible through Zenodo. The archive contains engineering laboratory data and does not contain human-subject data or personally identifiable information. No access restriction is required for the released research data. Reusers should cite the dataset DOI and associated report. No additional license is asserted in this README beyond the rights/license terms displayed by the repository record and applicable law. Preservation ------------ Zenodo provides the persistent dataset DOI above and preserves the deposited files and metadata. The dataset DOI should be used in citations and in records linking the supporting data to CREATE UTC Report 2301-9. The supporting DCAT-US JSON metadata and final DMP are intended to accompany the dataset during CREATE/USDOT closeout and ROSA P/NTL curation.
