As US electric vehicle (EV) adoption progresses, SH EVs will increasingly enter Mexico(opens in new window). SH EVs could speed vehicle electrification, but also present environmental and economic risks because they are larger and reach retirement faster than new EVs. Understanding future flows of used and new EVs into Mexico’s fleet, and their expected retirement, is needed to understand if SH EVs provide a net benefit. This research uses system dynamics modeling to project future EV adoption and SH vehicle trade between the US and Mexico. Results show EVs will comprise nearly 50% of Mexico’s fleet and up to 99% of SH imports by 2050, and SH EV batteries disproportionately contribute to the stock of spent EV batteries. Policies to ensure SH vehicle trade provides net benefits for the region include import and export battery state-of-health restrictions.", "distribution": [ { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.3r2280gnp", "title": "survey_data_de-identified_v2.csv", "format": "CSV", "mediaType": "text/csv", "description": "CSV dataset files for the 'Evaluating heterogeneity in household travel response to carbon pricing: a study focusing on small and rural communities' dataset." }, { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.3r2280gnp", "title": "README.md", "format": "MD", "mediaType": "text/markdown", "description": "Markdown documentation file for the 'Evaluating heterogeneity in household travel response to carbon pricing: a study focusing on small and rural communities' dataset." }, { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.b5mkkwhjv", "title": "interview_data_VT_2022.csv", "format": "CSV", "mediaType": "text/csv", "description": "CSV dataset files for the 'Comparing travel behavior and opportunities to increase transportation sustainability in small cities, towns, and rural communities' dataset." }, { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.b5mkkwhjv", "title": "README.md", "format": "MD", "mediaType": "text/markdown", "description": "Markdown documentation file for the 'Comparing travel behavior and opportunities to increase transportation sustainability in small cities, towns, and rural communities' dataset." }, { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.b5mkkwhjv", "title": "metadata.pdf", "format": "PDF", "mediaType": "application/pdf", "description": "Metadata documentation file for the 'Comparing travel behavior and opportunities to increase transportation sustainability in small cities, towns, and rural communities' dataset." }, { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.vt4b8gtz8", "title": "NE_MF_Survey_Metadata_2023.csv", "format": "CSV", "mediaType": "text/csv", "description": "CSV dataset files for the 'New England mileage fee survey' project." }, { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.vt4b8gtz8", "title": "README.md", "format": "MD", "mediaType": "text/markdown", "description": "Markdown documentation file for the 'New England mileage fee survey' dataset." } ], "format": "ZIP", "identifier": "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.3r2280gnp", "isPartOf": "https://doi.org/10.21949/1530855", "issued": "2025-02-25", "keyword": [ "Travel behavior", "Rural travel", "Travel costs", "Mode choice", "Mileage-based user fees", "User charges", "Heterogeneity", "Households", "Communities", "Carbon", "Pricing", "Greenhouse gases", "Data collection", "Electric vehicles", "Evaluation" ], "landingPage": "https://datadryad.org/dataset/doi:10.5061/dryad.3r2280gnp", "language": [ "en-US" ], "license": "https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/", "modified": "2025-02-25", "policyStatement": "This dataset was made public under the requirements enumerated in the U.S. Department of Transportation's 'Plan to Increase Public Access to the Results of Federally-Funded Scientific Research' Version 1.1 << https://doi.org/10.21949/1520559 >> and guidelines suggested by the DOT Public Access website << https://doi.org/10.21949/1503647 >>, in effect and current as of December 03, 2020.", "policyURL": "https://doi.org/10.21949/1520559 , https://doi.org/10.21949/1503647", "programCode": [ "021:053" ], "publisher": { "@type": "org:Organization", "name": "National Center for Sustainable Transportation (NCST)", "subOrganizationOf": { "@type": "org:Organization", "name": "University of California, Davis", "subOrganizationOf": { "@type": "org:Organization", "name": "University Transportation Center (UTC) Program", "subOrganizationOf": { "@type": "org:Organization", "name": "Department of Transportation", "subOrganizationOf": { "@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Government" } } } } }, "references": [ "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.b5mkkwhjv", "https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.vt4b8gtz8", "https://doi.org/10.7922/G2ZP44FW" ], "rights": "This dataset is open access per USDOT funding.
