Abstract: The United States Military Installations database
contains the boundaries, location, and areal
information for important military installations in the
United States and Puerto Rico. The database includes
boundaries for 499 installations.
Purpose: The data provide users with information about
the locations, names, and sizes of military
installations primarily for national planning
applications.

Data Set Credit: The Military Installation Boundary files
were compiled by the Military Traffic Management Command -
Transportation Engineering Agency from a variety of sources
including the US Bureau of the Census TIGER/Line files.

Attribute Accuracy
Attribute Accuracy Report: Attributes for the military
installations database have been created using a
Geographic Information System.
Logical Consistency Report: All node-link and polygon
topological relationships are created and verified
using computer algorithms. Unique entity identifiers
were similarly verified using ARC/INFO.
Completeness Report: The data set includes information for
499 installations in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Positional Accuracy
Horizontal Positional Accuracy
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report: The Military
installation database was compiled from TIGER/Line
data having a positional accuracy measure of +/- 80m
for the contiguous 48 States plus Washington D.C and
Hawaii. TIGER/Line files for Puerto Rico and Alaska were
compiled at a scale of 1:125,000.

Format Information Content: The BTS standard format
for spatial data is an interim format for
distributing National Transportation Atlas
Databases pending final approval of an SDTS
Transportation Network Profile (TNP). The BTS
standard format consists of a linked set of ASCII
fixed record length files. File formats and data
dictionary for the BTS standard format are
described in the document, 'National
Transportation Atlas Data Dictionary and Database
Formats', September 1995. Copies of this
documentation are distributed with each National
Transportation Atlas Database.
File Decompression Technique: No compression applied.
However, if using digital transfer online option,
note access instructions.
