Abstract:This report identifies financial trends of federal, state, and local government transportation-related program revenues and expenditures. Revenues and budget expenditures are displayed for all government transportation-related programs, including programs in federal agencies outside the U.S. Department of Transportation, and in state and local agencies. This report is the 12th in a series of reports that presents time-series data on federal, state, and local government transportation-related expenditures and revenues. Detailed information on federal level receipts and expenditures is available in Transportation Receipts and Outlays in the Federal Budget: Fiscal Years 1977-94, issued in May 1997. Next year, this report and the detailed federal report will be combined in one volume. This report is divided into two major sections: the first includes a detailed description of the data and sources, including derivation of the data series, methodological caveats, and clarification of specific points of concern. Section two explains trends in government transportation finances, including revenues, expenditures, and grants by mode, as well as user coverage and the role of capital expenditures by level of government and mode. Appendix A contains detailed tables 1-11, appendix B includes terms and definitions used in this report, and appendix C provides references for source materials.
