    • Abstract:
The Omnibus Surveys were designed as a convenient way to get very quick input on transportation issues, as well as to gauge public satisfaction with the transportation system and government programs. The Omnibus Surveys consisted of two vehicles: (1) a recurring household survey of 1,000 households that collected data on core questions about general travel experiences, satisfaction with the system, and some demographic data; and (2) a series of targeted surveys to address specific transportation issues or domains. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) develops targeted surveys to address transportation issues of special interest populations (i.e. elderly, pedestrians, etc...) identified by U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) agencies. The targeted surveys usually occur one time only, and therefore yield a "snapshot" of transportation use by the special interest populations. Some targeted surveys may be repeated a year or two later. The National Transportation Availability and Use Survey 2002 is a targeted survey that was conducted to fill data gaps by collecting data about how people with disabilities use transportation, what barriers they face in doing so, and their overall satisfaction with the transportation system.
