Abstract:The U.S. DOT has conducted research on the requirements for a Crash Event Data Recorder to facilitate the reconstruction of commercial motor vehicle crashes. This report documents the work performed on the “Development of Requirements and Functional Specifications for Crash Event Data Recorders” project, performed under U.S. DOT Contract: DTFH61-01-C-00182, Task Number: BZ82B007. It includes the results from the three program tasks: Task 1 – Develop Requirements for an EDR through Crash Analysis, Task 2 – Review Previous and Ongoing Efforts with Respect to Event Data Recorders (EDRs) and Vehicle Data Recorders (VDRs), and Task 3 – Develop Functional Specifications for an Event Data Recorder (EDR) for Commercial Motor Vehicles.
