Abstract:Soil compaction can severely limit the success of vegetation establishment. Current grading and landscaping practices commonly produce compacted soils of varied textures and profiles within SHA medians and roadsides, resulting in limited capacity to support healthy vegetation or stormwater infiltration. This report reviews the available practices and procedures to improve soil structure that will help turf, meadow, and landscape plantings to thrive while reducing stormwater runoff. Modifications to standard recommended practices for final finish grading and final landscaping can avoid or mitigate soil compaction, and establish superior sustainable landscapes.
