Abstract:Asphaltic Concrete (AC) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) are common roadway materials used in Oregon. In a recent construction project -- Poverty Flats/Mecham Section -- the Oregon State Highway Division (OSHD) designed, as part of the project, a "test section" consisting of one AC lane and one Continuously Reinforced Concrete (CRC) land parallel to each other. With a lightly-used inside lane of AC, and a heavily-traveled outside lane of CRC, it was believed that the pavement would have the superior strength, durability, and life span of CRC, yet a lower price than all-CRC pavement. The goals of the study are to determine the performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness of this "AC/CRC Adjacent Lance Surfacing."
